And wasting little time, the boy gets back into the West Coast swing of things…

Vau de Vire Society, Gofferman, Angelo Moore, etc. TOMORROW!

You know what I would really dig? I would absolutely love it if YOU went to this.

Yes, you.

If you don’t, I’ll try to understand, and it will still be the absolutely amazing, phenominal, jaw-dropping, eye-popping, hair standing, oooh! and Ahhhh!-ing, sense elevating and multiplying (wait – I thought I only had five common senses – where did these other three come from, and damn – why can’t I experience them ALL the time!) Epicurian, Circusian delight that we have all come to love these amazingly talented and sexy people for – yeah, it will still be all that and more…

but without YOU, there will be just that tiny bit that’s missing, that piece that we just can’t put our finger on, but notice that it’s not there.

We hope to see you.

(I may or may not bring out a version of my four-legged stilt character, last seen in an Enchanted Forest in Austin many, many months ago…)

  1. Damnit, I’m bartending a party tomorrow night! And this looks like exactly what I need!
Maybe if I get cut early enough I’ll shake out my hair and come by. At least my gig’s in the City and not out in Napa or someplace, so it might be doable.

  2. I’m going tomorrow, and it sounds really cool but… aaargh… the timing!
Just a few weeks ago, I struck a deal with Kimos to do a monthly event every fourth Saturday (beginning October 28th)that would have Shadow Circus hosting a regular event that instead of having bands would have acrobats, clowns, jugglers, etc… because since the Odeon closed there was nobody else hosting that sort of thing regularly… And two weeks later I find out Vaude De Ville Society is doing the same thing at roughly the same time at a bigger venue with a bigger budget and bigger names.
I mean, I’m happy there’s a similar thing out there… the more the merrier but, dammit, I wanted to be first… I wanted to make something that stood out… and I know my own event is just going to be a ghetto, half-assed version by comparison. It’s like pitching your home videos to someone who’s just come back from watching ‘Lord of the Rings’…
But I’ll be there tomorrow… and I’ll enjoy it immensely, I’m sure… But I’ll spend the whole evening in childish jealousy that I’m not doing events like that.

  3. But you know, the cool thing about your event is that you can be sort of the staging area for this if you want to – you can catch people before they’re big names, when they’re figuring out their acts. That doesn’t make you the grand whatever, no, but it is still really important. The bay area has enough circus freaks these days that it’s kind of hard to break into performing at all, it feels like, so you can give people a good chance with that. I know a ton of fire spinners who can’t compete with Vau de Vire either.

  4. I suppose you’re right… and we do still have the gimmick that ours is hosted by puppet MCs. And being smaller, we are much cheaper ($5 as opposed to $15)
In the end it may work to our advantage… Being that the Vaude De Vire events are exactly one week before each of ours, it does give a steady flow of people to promote to the weekend before…
Heck, if you know any Circus Freaks that are having a hard time breaking into performing, send the cats my way…
